2022 SINGLE VINEYARD PINOT NOIR
The subregion of Gladysdale is home to some of the most iconic Pinot Noir vineyards of the Yarra Valley; situated at an altitude of 250m in the far eastern quadrant of the valley, the mature (25+ years) plantings of low-yielding MV6 clones strive in these cooler growing conditions and red soils. The cool aspect of this subregion slows the ripening process and gives the wines fragrance and lift.
This vineyard was originally the source of our sparkling wines, but the quality of the grapes was so too good not to make it into a single vineyard still wine. It's taken some work in the vineyard as even though they're the same varieties, they are treated, trained and pruned differently and needed time to regain balance.
The grapes are picked by hand and chilled overnight to ensure brightness and purity. De-stemmed, crushed, kept on skins for 15 days, and transferred into the finest French oak barrels (25% new) with very tight grain to add structure. After maturing for ten months in barrel, the wine was bottled and aged in the cellar until now.
