Bistro

Michael Themel - Head Chef

Now very much a Yarra Valley local, having spent the last six years in Healesville, Michael started his career in his homeland, Austria. Developing a love of traditional European cuisine in the hotels and resorts of the Alps, Micheal took a leap forward into fine dining at the two Michelin-starred Ikarus - Red Bull, Salzburg. With the rest of the world’s cuisines to discover, he swapped the beauty of the Austrian Alps for London and then the Bahamas. This was before he found his way to the Valley via some time in Melbourne favourites The Stokehouse and Philippe Mouchel.  Now at Dominique Portet, Michael brings his European understanding to the most French of Yarra Valley wineries.

Dining (Thursday - Sunday)

Originating in Paris, in the 19th Century, the bistro developed from small drinking houses with simple food to become the centrepiece of French casual dining. Appealing to customers from all parts of society, bistros offer simple, well-made cuisine with wines from around the country, at affordable prices, in a convivial atmosphere.

Our bistro shares this same sense of homeliness with classic dishes served with our French inspired wines from the Dominique Portet cellar.

L'Apéro Dining (Monday - Wednesday)

L’ Apéro dining is inspired by the French ritual that combines casual food, drinks and friends. Our menu features a selection of small plates to share, where you'll find some beloved classics, as well as some interesting additions. Match your grazing plates with your favourite Portet wines — by the glass or by the bottle. Et voila, you have yourself a good time.

7 people maximum per booking. 11.00am – 4.00pm.

Please note a 15% surcharge applies on public holidays and 7.5% surcharge applies on weekends.
